The presence of albumin in the urine (albuminuria) and the progression of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) are traditional risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and all-cause mortality. &913; good predictor of the incidence of CVD is found to be carotid atherosclerosis, which is being evaluated by the Intima-Media-Thickness of the carotid artery wall (cIMT). The aim of the study was to examine the relationship between the cIMT and the stage of CKD based on the estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) as well as the presence of diabetic nephropathy graded by the urinary albumin excretion in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
